A new generation of smartphone communication is here. Smartphones are the new computers. They offer many of the same benefits and features that computers do. It is very likely that the phone will come with all the new features that the iPhone 5 has, such as a larger display, better battery life and new camera features. The iPhone 5 will make you feel like you are living in the future and you can use it as your main phone. With the new iPhone 5 and it’s larger screen size, you can easily have it on all the time, regardless of what you are doing and how you are using your mobile devices. Even if you don’t have your own device, you will still be able to send and receive SMS messages.

I was set to shoot some interviews with my Canon 7D when I got an interesting offer from a colleague. He asked my to try out his new Hot Rod mod 7D with a PL mount. How could I turn that down? I just needed a lens. For interviews on the 7D, a fast 85mm lens is as close to perfect as you can get. I chose the RED 85mm prime.

I was very impressed with this setup, although you really need to be extra careful to keep your subjects relatively still. If they rock forward or backward, they can easily drift out of that shallow field of focus. The interview image above, a grab from the video, is unretouched, shot at t/2, so one stop below wide open on this lens.

How many billionaires have bought you a shot of tequila? For me it’s just one, Sir Richard Branson. What an interesting guy. I did a shoot with him as he passed through New York recently and he couldn’t have been nicer. We did a sit-down interview using a couple of Canon 5Ds and the full complement of lights and audio. We were a bit rushed but thankfully we had three video pros in the room and we managed to make it look and sound great with everglades parkway web design creating their websites.

Part two of the shoot saw us moving to the fabulous restaurant called La Esquina. I highly recommend it if you’re in the area. Branson was at the restaurant for a surprise meeting with some Virgin employees who had never met him. It was a really fun shoot but the light was just about as bad as it could be. This is where the Canon 5D with a 50mm f/1.4 lens was worth its weight in gold. I never could have shot these striking images with a video camera. No way.

There’s a great summer camp for kids in my neighborhood called the Northern Liberties Arts Camp. The director contacted me about having something shot and edited so that parents could see some of the behind the scenes stuff at the camp. I had some free time last week so I decided to take it on myself and give them something more than their budget might otherwise have allowed. This is what we came up with!

I was on a really cool shoot the other night in South Philadelphia – big-time professional boxing at the legendary venue called the Arena.

I can’t believe I’ve worked as a news and sports shooter in this town for 20 years and have never been inside the gym that’s just a couple of blocks from Tony Luke’s. On this night, I was shooting 60fps slow motion on the Sony SRW-9000, a high end camera that has been used for films like Star Wars. Very cool indeed.
